The summer camp program at Oak Farm Montessori School is an engaged environment. Adhering to the Montessori philosophy, the campers are invited to discover, explore, question and create in an atmosphere of respect. The camp programs include a weekly unit of study built around the Montessori core curriculum.
We offer summer camp for all children ages 18 months through 12 years of age and an Art Program that includes Middle School students through 15 years of age. The camp programs are offered as a half day or full day program as a week long unit of study. Camp programs for Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary and Middle School students ages 6-15 years of age are open for current students as well as to the public. Enroll your child according to their current program level.

Bus service:

Bus Service is available from DuPont Road in Fort Wayne, IN.
Pickup time is 8:00 a.m. and drop off is at 4:00 p.m. Bus Service is dependant on sufficient enrollment
Each camper will need to bring a packed lunch with ice pack (no warm-ups), mud boots and a complete change of clothes.

LOWER ELEMENTARY SUMMER CAMP (grades 1 - 3)
June 7-11: Heather - Summer Art Camp - (at the Oak Farm Community Art Center)
Puppetry Workshop - ½ day mornings only
Students will first learn to create a simple puppet design from common, found objects, such as kitchen utensils, used hardware, and fabric scraps. After this introductory project students will create a marionette style puppet by wrapping plaster around modeled form. Simple costumes will be created to enhance each puppets personality. Large-scale paper mache’ puppets will also be created as a group as teamwork is utilized to control the animation of these grand creations. As time allows, students will investigate and develop shadow puppets, stick puppets, and black-light designs.
Exploring Media - ½ day afternoons only
Monday: Batik - students will use warm wax and fabric dyes to develop a multi-layered design.
Tuesday: Batik - students will use warm wax and fabric dyes to develop a multi-layered design.
Wednesday: Wire portraits - In the vein of Calder, students will use a photograph brought from home as the foundation for creating a self-portrait from aluminum wire. Portraits will go home mounted on a 12”x12” black backing that can easily be slipped into a 12” shadowbox frame. (Frame not included.)
Thursday: Watercolor painting - Students will learn the basics of painting with watercolor as they study a still life. If weather allows we will venture outdoors and paint from nature.
Friday: Drawing - Students will learn the fundamentals of drawing as they train their artist’s eye. This introductory class will include time to experiment with charcoal, pencil, and ink.
June 14-18: Suzy - Drama
If you love writing and enjoy acting then join us for a week of creative magic. We will start by reading some well known picture books, talk about the elements of a great story and the traits of quality writing, practice creative movement and stage blocking and then write and perform our own skits using minimal scenery and costumes.
June 21-25: Jamie – Invention Camp
Have you ever looked at something and wondered, “How does this work?” Spend a week exploring the amazing world of science. If you love to design and build things and then test it…you will absolute love invention camp.
June 28-July 2: Jamie - Butterfly Garden
Have you ever sat and watched a beautiful butterfly flutter past and wonder where it may be going? Spend a week working together to create a butterfly garden for all Oak Farm students to love. We will be visiting a local nursery, meeting with a landscaper, and then designing our own butterfly garden.
July 12-16: Gabriel Forestieri and Emily Moore -Home Story
A delightful excursion into the Eco-Arts – a children’s study of Land, Place and Artistic Expression. Together, we will explore the land, sing songs, draw pictures, write stories and develop an understanding of the paths that created our home. Along the way, we will investigate the interdependency of an ecosystem, the importance of diversity, and the role we all play in the creation of our environment. Explore the woods, the prairie and pond with science, imagination and dance. Gabriel Forestieri and Emily Moore, professional dancers and ecologists.
July 19-23: Debbie - Project Camp
Do you have research ideas that you just can't fit into your school day? If so, bring your ideas to project camp and we will help you discover resources for answering your questions, write interview questions for experts in a related field and create a final project to be shared with others.
July 26-30: Carolyn - Art and Animals and Drama Around the World
This class will include weaving, painting masks, making African shields, and painting animals from around the world. We will read folktales and poems from around the world and practice writing and illustrating our own poems and folk tales. We will also prepare food from different places and eat it for lunch. As a bonus, the students will learn fun new outdoor games to play with friends and family.
August 2-6: Jamie and Suzy - Jump Start Lower Elementary
Worried about a bad case of “summer brain”? Join us for a week of jumpstarting our school year – students will spend the week engaged in fun academic activities. Reactivate your love of reading, writing, science and the arts. We will utilize the entire campus to discover our love for math, language, and science.

Mornings will be spent learning how to make pottery pieces out of slabs and coils. Campers will also learn to use a pottery wheel. In the afternoon, campers will learn how to make 3 dimensional drawings, and learn how to draw faces and animals. Campers will have an opportunity to make their own creations or work on teacher directed projects. Some time each day will be spent looking at some famous paintings and the stories behind them. Those who participate in week two will have an opportunity to learn about glazing and glaze their pottery pieces. We will also learn basics of Google Sketch up on the computers. As a bonus, each day the Campers will learn a fun new game that will exercise their brains which they can teach to friends and family.
July 19-23: Carolyn – Painting (Week 2)
The class will include water color painting lessons. Campers will learn how to create different shades and hues to create beautiful pieces of art. Campers who took the drawing class in week one might choose to draw a jungle scene with lots of animals in the fashion of Henri Rousseau or learn to fill up the space with something beautiful such as in the work of Georgia O’ Keeffe. One day will include edible art, and we will have it for lunch! We will be using tempera paint, oil pastels, and water colors. As in week one, each day the campers will learn a fun new game that will exercise their brains which they can teach to friends and family.
