All children in the environment need to bring the following items to school:
· 1 set of season-appropriate outerwear (fall and spring: jacket and sun hat; winter: coat, hat, gloves or mittens, snow pants, and snow boots)
· 1 hat for protection from ticks and sun
· 3 or 4 loose-neck shirts
· 3 or 4 elastic-waist pants or shorts (no overalls or onesies, please)
· 4 or 5 pairs of socks
· 4 pairs of underwear or well-padded training underwear—all ages Note: Pull-ups are not permitted.
· 1 pair of waterproof, pull-on mud boots or waterproof hiking boots for use in the barn, garden, and woods (available at Wal-Mart or Target)
· 1 pair of slippers. We prefer ballet-type slip-on or snug-fitting slippers rather than bedroom slippers so children can walk “normally.” “Character” and large, fuzzy slippers are not allowed. Children will change out of their shoes into slippers before entering the environment.
· 2 fitted twin or toddler-size sheets (all-day students only)
· 2 small blankets, one heavy and one lightweight (all-day students only)
· 1 small, child-size tooth brush
· 1 hairbrush or comb
· 4 photos of child
· 1 family photo
· 2 boxes of tissues
· 2 containers of disinfectant wipes
· 1 non-perishable healthy snack (examples: raisins, whole grains, beans)
If Your Child Is In Diapers, please provide the following items labeled with your child’s name:
· 1 large, unopened package of diapers
· 2 unopened boxes of diaper wipes
· 1 unopened small tube of ointment of your choice.
Clothing and Shoes
Please send your child to school in shoes and clothing that allow successful independence for both dressing and personal hygiene. Children need to dress and undress themselves as many times as they feel is necessary. They will also
need closed-toed shoes they can slip on and off—no Crocs please. Children who cannot yet snap or buckle are to wear elastic-waist pants and no belt. Overalls are “cute,” but young children often do not yet have the skills to manipulate the buckles. During the school day students will have lessons in dressing skills that include zipping, snapping, and buttoning to help them with this independence.
In addition, when your child chooses clothing for the day, please keep in mind weather and school activities. Weather and temperature may change throughout the day and necessitate different sorts of clothing. Also, although aprons are worn both for art and works that involve water, students do often “wear their work” and need additional clothing available for these times.
All articles of clothing and toiletry items such as toothbrush, toothpaste, brushes, and combs should have your child’s name labeled on them in permanent marker. Knowing which items belong to whom by proper labeling will allow the children to develop independence and self-confidence.
We shall inform you when your child’s supply of clothing or toiletries runs low and needs restocked.
Lunch
You may elect not to participate in the School’s lunch program. However, any lunch brought from home should be nutritious and well-balanced, using the nutritional guidelines as recommended by the U.S.D.A. Food Guide. We do not allow items from fast-food restaurants or Lunchables®. However, deli-style sandwiches like those served at Subway are the exception. Soup may be brought from home, but it should be heated and in a thermos because lunch items cannot be indiscriminately reheated at school. Students may not bring sugared snacks such as pudding, cookies, or cake. We suggest including fresh fruit as a dessert item. In addition, if packing yogurt, please only pack yogurt that can be eaten with a spoon and is low in sugar. Also, please be aware of and monitor closely all the additives and preservatives in the food your child eats.
Note: If students bring any of these non-nutritional items to school, we will ask them to take the item home.
Student-packed lunches are to be packed in a lunch box with your child’s full name printed clearly and permanently on the top of the lunch box. Please avoid paper bags, plastic bags, igloo-type lunch boxes, or any lunch box with a “character” on them as a lunch container. Also, due to lack of ample refrigeration space, you will need to include an ice pack in the lunch box.

Additional Information:
1. Distracting adornments or decals (such as characters, cartoons, etc.) are not allowed on clothing, slippers, shoes, or lunch boxes. In addition, students may not wear tattoos, stickers, or stamps. Students will be asked to remove said items, should they be worn to School.
2. All clothing your child wears to School should be labeled, as students may need to change and launder their clothing.
3. During the cold months, students will need to keep a hat, mittens (rather than gloves), and snow pants (rather than snow overalls) at School.
4. Oak Farm provides a comb, toothpaste, a toothbrush, insect repellant, sunscreen, Vaseline for chapped lips, and a tote bag.
5. Students may bring in special items to share occasionally, such as appropriate books, natural science items, pictures, and newsworthy articles from newspapers and magazines. Please do not bring toys of any kind. Personal belongings such as money, accessories, balls, lipstick or Chap Stick®, cosmetics, toy cars, CD’s, and dolls disrupt and can sometimes “disappear” and may not be brought to School.
