At Oak Farm Montessori School, we strive to engage the child in all of their senses: sight, smell, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. One way to foster and encourage this development is by providing opportunities for movement throughout their day.

At Oak Farm Montessori School, we believe that meaningful learning happens through choice, context, curiosity, and collaboration, and second-language learning is no exception. Spanish is integrated into every level of our Montessori environment, beginning with our youngest infants and continuing through High School. Children engage with the language through songs, stories, cultural exploration, and increasingly advanced lessons as they grow.

From early exposure in Primary to structured grammar, vocabulary, and cultural studies in Elementary and Middle School, students build a strong foundation in both communication and cultural understanding. In High School, students are required to complete four credits of Spanish, with courses offered from Spanish I through AP, and the option to pursue additional languages afterward.

This year, we proudly launched our first Dual-Language Spanish Immersion class for incoming first graders, with plans to expand the program each year.

Movement is an essential part of Dr. Maria Montessori’s approach to whole-child development, and at Oak Farm Montessori School, it is built into every day. In our Primary program (ages 3–6), Physical Education offers purposeful, developmentally aligned activities that harness children’s natural inclination for movement. Each day, students may choose up to 20 minutes of P.E. during their morning work cycle.

Our bright, spacious P.E. room features sequential skill-based stations, allowing children to practice at their own pace after receiving lessons. Students also benefit from the Brain Gym® program, which supports learning through natural movement patterns.

The Primary P.E. program builds key skills, including gross- and fine-motor development, balance, hand-eye and foot-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and overall body control.

For as long as written language has existed, libraries have served as centers of knowledge and discovery. Once simple record-keeping spaces, they have evolved into places where anyone can expand their worldview. The American Library Association affirms this purpose through its Library Bill of Rights, which guarantees access to diverse perspectives and emphasizes the importance of challenging censorship to ensure free and open inquiry.

These values align closely with Montessori principles, which honor each child’s voice and support their natural curiosity. As the Oak Farm library has grown, we’ve intentionally selected books and designed environments that reflect these principles. Each plane of development has its own curated library space, allowing students to explore independently and find resources that meet their interests and needs.

Maria Montessori believed that “No social problem is as universal as the oppression of the child,” and that limiting access to knowledge is one of the greatest forms of oppression. This is why our libraries play an essential role in daily life at Oak Farm Montessori School empowering students through choice, curiosity, and the freedom to learn.
