Music

Music at Oak Farm Montessori is a time for singing, dancing, playing instruments, and learning some intricacies of the musical language.

Students in Lower and Upper Elementary have the opportunity to experience music weekly, while Kindergarten students meet two times a week.

At the Middle School level, we allow the students’ interests to lead the course choices. In the past, this has included the study of musical theatre, ukulele study, vocal study, and an introduction to African djembe drumming.

Maria Montessori saw the importance of the development of the child’s ear even at the Early Childhood stage.  Various lessons are provided in the discernment and exploration of sound, as well as opportunities to play and experience the making of music through instruments and song. Students also perform several times throughout the year during all school events.

Along with weekly music classes, students at Oak Farm Montessori have the opportunity to participate in private piano and and guitar lessons.

Piano lessons are offered to Oak Farm Montessori students from Primary through High School and are guided by our music teacher, Aaron Samra. Rooted in Montessori principles, piano instruction supports the development of concentration, independence, coordination, and self-expression.

Students learn in a prepared environment that encourages hands-on exploration, self-paced progress, and a deep connection to music as both a language and a form of creative work. Lessons are tailored to each child’s developmental stage, honoring individual readiness while fostering discipline, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

Through piano study, students strengthen fine motor skills, pattern recognition, and emotional expression; skills that align with Montessori’s holistic approach to educating the whole child.
