Typewrite

TypeWrite was created in 2017 by Oak Farm Montessori High School student, Claire Weiss. While the HS bike business program appealed to most, Claire wanted to take a different path. After approaching her teachers and presenting her idea, she was encouraged and supported to follow her passion for writing. Three years later, she is mentoring incoming Freshmen to take over her beloved publication. Below is a short interview with the publisher.

How did this idea arise?

TypeWrite was established out of my feeling that there was a gap in a shared student led project across campus. I felt as though students did not have an outlet for voice and expression, and I felt as though I could do something about that.

How have you implemented your business classes into this endeavor?

Everything we learn in business class I work diligently to establish in the magazine. I have used business class lessons to create operations manuals, business plans, finance sheets, advance my marketing, create organization strategies, and so much more.

How has this opportunity prepared you as a young entrepreneur?

Where do I begin! Not only has TypeWrite shown me business and operations skills like marketing, advertising, financing, communication, etc. I have learned so much about myself. I have learned about taking pride over my work, and along with theat taking responsibility for pitfalls. I have learned about kindness and treating people like individuals. I have learned about guidance and asking for help when I need it. Most importantly, I have learned that I am capable. I am capable of everything I was told in my past that I wasn’t. I am strong, hard-working, creative, brave, kind, and diligent.
