Music

Music at Oak Farm Montessori is a time for singing, dancing, playing instruments and learning some intricacies of the musical language. Students in Lower and Upper Elementary have the opportunity to experience music weekly, while Kindergarten students meet two times a week.  At the Middle School level we allow the students’ interests to lead the course choices. In the past, this has included the study of musical theatre, ukulele study, vocal study, and an introduction to African djembe drumming.

Maria Montessori saw the importance of development of the child’s ear even at the Early Childhood stage.  Various lessons are provided in the discernment and exploration of sound as well as opportunities to play and experience the making of music through instruments and song. Students also perform several times throughout the year during all school events.

Along with weekly music classes, students at Oak Farm Montessori have the opportunity to participate in private lessons; either during the day or after school.  These lessons are offered two days a week with a Suzuki trained pianist. Students age six and up are welcome to participate. Please contact Mary Todd for additional information.
